Sherman Clapman

I know this is terribly late, but wanted to express our condolences. Sherman’s name comes up frequently in conversation here at the station and we came across this announcement when posting some old photos. To his family: thanks for sharing him with us here at WSVA and Verstandig Broadcasting.

I remember visiting Sherm at the WMRV transmitter site, and him telling the story about how he left a tool inside one of the transmitter cabinets when he was restarting the transmitter, and he unlatched the door to get the tool while the transmitter was on. The safety circuits kicked in, shorted out the power supplies with an enormous BANG and a brilliant flash of lightning, all inside a little concrete bunker. He used to laugh so hard about “I’ll never do that again!” We’ll miss you, Sherm, KA2PPR, silent key. Love to Stacey and Mike and the grandchildren.
